Do not convert four market averages into a Japan salary offer. Match the discipline and seniority first, then compare guaranteed annual cash, variable pay and relocation costs. The references below were checked on 7 November 2026. They are market context, not Tech Alliance placement data, live candidate expectations or published vacancy salaries.
Taiwan: annual role medians
104’s September 2026 semiconductor release reports annual medians of TWD 1.72 million for analogue IC design and TWD 1.59 million for digital IC design, both non-management roles. The release does not isolate English-speaking, relocation-ready candidates or a specific experience band. Do not describe these annual figures as guaranteed base salary or apply IC-design pay to materials and fab roles.
Malaysia: advertised monthly process-engineer pay
Jobstreet’s Malaysia Process Engineer page showed MYR 3,900–5,300 per month when checked on 7 November 2026. It draws on employer-disclosed full-time job-ad ranges across industries, not a semiconductor-only sample. Benefits inclusion varies. This is a broad screening reference, not a senior packaging, equipment or bilingual-specialist benchmark; recheck the live page and matched local roles before pricing a search.
Mainland China: advertised pay, not accepted offers
The MOHRSS Q1 2026 table lists mean advertised monthly pay of CNY 13,200 for semiconductor equipment engineers and CNY 30,700 for analogue chip-design engineers. These are different occupations, not the low and high ends of one range. They are not take-home pay, relocation packages or a measured English-language premium. City, seniority and bonus basis need separate validation.
Japan: an occupational reference, not a relocation rate
MHLW job tag shows JPY 7.039 million annual earnings using the 2025 wage survey for the occupational classification associated with semiconductor engineers. The classification also includes related electrical/electronics engineering work. It is not a semiconductor-only median, an advertised offer range or a minimum budget for attracting overseas specialists.
Build the offer comparison in the candidate’s terms
- Annual guaranteed cash: monthly fixed salary × guaranteed paid months, plus guaranteed fixed allowances. Separate overtime and shift payments; do not count uncertain overtime as guaranteed income.
- Variable and deferred compensation: target bonus, actual eligibility, payout timing, equity vesting and any bonus forfeited on departure. Keep one-off joining support separate from recurring annual compensation.
- Move and living costs: relocation, temporary accommodation, deposits, commuting, family needs raised by the candidate and home visits. Ask a qualified adviser about tax and social insurance; gross pay is not disposable income.
- Exchange-rate sensitivity: agree a dated rate and show a second scenario if useful. Do not promise exchange protection or imply that the employer must reimburse every currency movement.
When a precise range is not yet defensible
Request matched data by role, worksite, experience and employment type, plus the candidate’s voluntary expectations. There is no verified universal percentage premium for English or willingness to relocate in these sources. Use the same method for South Korea, India and Singapore, with local salary and permission checks; do not reuse Japanese salary assumptions. Tech Alliance can help turn the evidence gaps into a focused hiring brief.

Questions employers ask
Are these comparable salary bands?
No. Taiwan reports annual role medians; Malaysia uses advertised monthly ranges; mainland China reports mean advertised monthly pay; Japan shows broader occupational annual earnings. Keep currency, period, population and pay components attached to every figure.
What should an employer send for a salary discussion?
The role, destination/worksite, seniority, essential skills, working languages, employment arrangement and proposed guaranteed/variable pay. Discuss relocation separately; no candidate personal documents are needed for an initial enquiry.
